About Sam

Sam Trewick, MA, Psychotherapist

I feel deeply connected with people who struggle to feel safe, worthy, and like they belong. I specialize in working with queer folks, trauma, anxiety and depression, body shame, high sensitivity, and an overall feeling of being stuck. My goal is to help you feel less alone with what you are going through and work together to develop self-compassion and other tools to help you heal yourself and cope with trauma, injustice, and oppression.

I believe everything we need to heal is already within us, and we sometimes require help accessing it. Healers and shamans have been helping their communities deal with pain and trauma — and fulfilling their true potential — for centuries. I see counselors as modern incarnations of that lineage, and I consider this work my sacred calling.

Therapy with me feels intimate, connected, and safe — at times, very deep and, at times, downright fun. Tears and belly laughs are equally likely during a session, and I believe both are inherently healing. My focus in therapy is on collaborating to form a safe, healing container in which strengths and struggles can safely arise and be worked with. I am a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based transpersonal counselor: I integrate meditation, movement/somatics, breath practices, spirituality, art, music, neurology, parts work, and attachment theory into my sessions.

A colleague once called me “a champion for the underdog,” and I wear that distinction with pride. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, and I take a social justice approach to therapy. I hope to be of help to anyone who feels in need of compassionate support and assistance, regardless of your background or current struggles.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

“Sam is one of those rare individuals with whom I feel truly blessed to have crossed paths with. Sam’s compassion, presence, and attunement lend to him creating a safe atmosphere where clients feel seen, heard, understood, accepted, and ultimately as though they make sense! Sam is a truly exceptional clinician in the field of helping professionals. He has an uncanny ability to sense into each client’s unique circumstances and specific window of tolerance, and adjust therapy accordingly—going at their unique pace.  He gently guides clients towards their own inner compass, sits alongside them in their discomfort, and ultimately encourages movement towards their inherent wholeness.  In Sam’s presence, I feel inspired and able to show up as my highest, most loving and compassionate self, what a gift!”

“Sam isn’t simply skilled, he is exceptional. Along with extensive knowledge of and training in trauma work, attachment, and somatics, Sam brings profound warmth, attuned listening, and deep intuition to his collaborative work with clients as he helps guide them towards growth and expansion, providing his clients with tools they can continue to use for the rest of their lives. While the world outside can be harsh and life can present with immense struggles and pain, sessions with Sam are a respite from it all: he creates an atmosphere of openness and curiosity that allows a person to show up exactly as they are with the confidence that they will be met with true empathy and unparalleled positive regard – a safe space where profound, lasting healing can occur.”
